With the rise in the automation of operations and the proliferation of transformations, change initiatives and project work in today’s organizations, a new role is emerging in the executive committee: that of the Chief Project Officer.

This reality was brought into sharp focus during the Pandemic, when every CEO had to become their company's Chief Project Officer too!

As our most successful leaders demonstrated, the Chief Project Officer’s responsibilities go far beyond orchestrating and consolidating elements of individual projects. Chief Project Officers must push their organization toward adopting a project-driven structure and foster a collaborative and empowering culture that reaches across silos. They must also work with HR to champion the development of project-management skills throughout the organization, because these are skills not only needed by project managers: we all need to develop them, including employees, middle managers and senior leaders.

On October 26, Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez will join us to explain these fundamental changes in business – ideas outlined in Harvard Business Review Project Management Handbook, and in Antonio's recent article in Harvard Business Review.

He will be joined by HBR senior editor Dave Lievens to discuss how business leaders and HR teams need to rise to this new challenge -- and what it all means for individual employees.

Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez is an author, practitioner, professor and advisor who teaches strategy and project implementation to senior leaders and managers. He is a visiting professor and a frequent guest speaker at business schools and project management events around the world.
