The PMBOK® Guide In 1983, a dedicated group of volunteers from the Project Management Institute (PMI®) came together for the pioneering goal of defining the knowledge base for project management. The effort later led to the creation of the Project Management Guide (PMBOK® Guide), which can be considered a global standard for project management. Although the business has undergone significant changes in recent decades, good practice project management remains a critical driver behind business success.

It creates value, advances strategy, and increases an organization’s competitive advantage. Today, the PMBOK® Guide is a widely recognized publication that provides a comprehensive set of rules for effective project management practice. Why? Because it was developed in a unique way by project managers and is for project managers. A hundred-person global team of volunteers and practicing project managers work on all editions of the PMBOK® Guide. In the early stages of release, the draft is available to everyone, reviewed, and commented on, and all suggestions are considered by the central team.
