PROJECTS WITH CONTRACTORS - BOON OR BANE? - Project Business - the Customer Side

Power Skills

Project Business - the Customer Side

  • There is a strong trend for Make-or-Buy decisions in projects to select the Buy option. Organizations hope to address a wider array of challenges concurrently and win agility by contracting out more and more work.
  • Leading and directing a project for the project managers involved becomes a business task: They bring strangers into their projects, and highly complex project supply networks can evolve, that are hard to manage. Mission success becomes unachievable when the project partners turn into warring parties that reject to put completing over competing.
  • For project managers educated to lead projects with internal, cross-functional teams, help is needed to do the change to cross-corporate teams. To ensure mission success, they need to master different terminology, develop business acumen, and gain knowledge in contract law - on top of the also needed project management skills.
  • Most successful project managers involved in Project Business have learned that through Trial and Error.  The problem: Trial in project business is expensive, and error even more.
  • What is necessary for organizations and individuals to do be successful in performing projects as paying customers leading contractors?
