Lunch & Learn: Beyond the PMI Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct: The Decisions No One Sees

Presentation summary: What happens when the deadline is unforgiving, the sponsor wants better news, an AI-generated deliverable looks convincing, and the easiest decision is also the one that makes you slightly uncomfortable? Ethics in project management rarely arrives with a flashing warning sign. More often, it appears quietly in the status report you are tempted to soften, the risk you could conveniently understate, the vendor decision that is not quite impartial, or the mistake someone suggests you simply “correct and move on” from. In this thought-provoking session, Laszlo J. Kremmer, Member of the PMI Ethics Advisory Team (EAT), explores the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct not as a compliance document, but as a practical leadership compass for situations where the right answer may not be immediately obvious. We will uncover the meaning behind Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, and Honesty, explore the difference between aspirational and mandatory standards, and examine how these timeless principles apply in a world of AI-assisted decision-making, hybrid teams, data privacy concerns, and increasingly complex stakeholder environments. And then comes the uncomfortable question: When pressure rises and nobody is watching—what kind of project leader are you? This session is designed to make you think differently about ethics, trust, accountability, and the everyday decisions that ultimately shape project success. The presentation also connects ethical leadership with PMI’s M.O.R.E. mindset—moving from principles toward sustainable value and real-world impact.
