PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter as local organization of Project Management Institute (PMI) was established in 2003 and according to Hungarian Law it works in association legal form. Prior chartering it by PMI a more than 1 year preparation work was supported by other project management associations in Budapest and some multinational and local companies as well

Mission of the association
PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter as member of PMI, the worldwide organization of project managers works as community of volunteer for improving the quality of project management profession, increasing the recognition and value of project management certifications, building relationship among local and international project management organization and transmit the international result of the profession.

The organized structure of the association provides an opportunity for the Hungarian Project Managers to locally utilize the professional background of PMI. PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter offers a possibility to organize PMI offered seminars and lectures in Hungary, compare technical experiences and establish professional relationships with international organizations and other PMI associations.

Besides supporting the establishment of international relationships, the association offers many opportunities to hold locally organized professional forums to exchange and share project management experiences. Its purpose is to facilitate the naturalization of the international assessment culture based on the results of our national educational system, and to raise the level of acknowledgement of the Project Manager professional.

Main activities of PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter – some cases together with othe project management associates:

  • Annually organizing two main PMI events named as 'Körkapcsolás', each of them focusing on a special Project Management Knowledge Area;

  • Participating in the organization of the annually held 'Project Management in the Economy' seminar - (TIPIK event since 1996);

  • Publishing the PMI Newsletter;
  • Managing the homepage of PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter (www.pmi.hu);
  • Publishing and marketing activities to introduce the subject and achievements of project management and the events of PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter to a larger public audience;
  • Preparing and continuously updating the Hungarian the glossary of project management profession;
  • Publishing together with Akadémia Kiadó as Publisher PMBOK® Guide 3rd;
  • Translating and publishing in 2009 book of Randall L. Englund - Alfonso Bucero „Project Sponsorship: Achieving Management Commitment for Project Success" based on volunteer team's work;
  • Publishing in 2011 PMI"s The Standard for Portfolio Management – Second Edition non-official translation based on volunteers reviewers' work;

  • Organizing events since 2005 to held the International PM world day in November;

With the purpose of expanding the membership of PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter, its leadership committee is continuously seeking those project managers and senior executives who are committed to Project Management, and consider the development of their individual and organizational professional life important.

PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013. We have more than 120 registered members in Hungary. We are proud to be part of the global PMI network.

Certification

PMI offers a wide range of professional development opportunities, from our SeminarsWorld® and e-learning courses to PMI global congresses and other events.

You can also turn to more than 1500 Registered Education Providers (REPs) for project management training and continuing development. For those in college, the PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs has recognized more than 85 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Project management degree programs are becoming more important for both current and future practitioners. The PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC) ensures that those academic programs are of the highest quality, and offers expertise and assistance to their faculty.

Research at PMI

The PMI Research Program, formed in 1997, works developing the discipline and profession of the project management. Since then, PMI has invested more than US $14 million in project management research.

The research program is an essential part of PMI's mission to make project management indispensable for business results. We believe that academic research informs the practice of project management and that the real-world application of its results sparks further research.
The program creates new knowledge through research projects, conference papers, symposia and poster presentations, as well as through the survey links program.

Governance

PMI is governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors. Each year PMI members elect five directors to three-year terms. Three directors elected by others on the Board serve one-year terms as officers.

Publication

PMI has leading role in the project management books, research reports, training materials, project management tools publication.

• Project Management Journal® – reviewed academic publication focused on management techniques, research, theories and applications.
